Michael R. Oberto, M.D.

Michael Oberto was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. He came to Fresno after finishing Orthopaedic Residency Training at the University of Southern California (USC). During his nine years at USC he completed several degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering; Doctor of Medicine; Internship in Basic Surgery, Orthopedic Residency, as well as a Fellowship in spine surgery. Initially he cared for patients of all ages but as Pediatric Orthopedists came to the area, he transition to older teen and adults.

While practicing orthopedic surgery in the Central Valley for over twenty years, he has gradually narrowed the scope of his practice to joint replacement surgery, fracture repair, sports injuries, and hindfoot fracture repair and reconstructive surgery. He has treated over 18,000 patients with hip, knee, and shoulder problems plus a broad array of other orthopedic problems and diseases. The most frequently performed surgeries are hip and knee joint replacements, shoulder and knee sports injuries, shoulder rotator cuff surgery, carpal tunnel release, calcaneal fracture repair and treatment of fracture repair.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, he published an article, "Plastic Bowing of the Femur in a Neonate" in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Vol. 4, No. 6 1984.

In addition to his specialized medical skills, he is fluent in Spanish. Outside his professional interests he swims, scuba dives, surfs, reads, and enjoys living in Fresno with his family.
